POLISH FILMS AT DOK.LEIPZIG
The 58th edition of DOK.Leipzig starts on 26 October and lasts until 1 November. In this year's festival programme, as many as 10 Polish films will be shown.
In the International Competition Long Documentary and Animated Film, there are two Polish films. The first one is "Brothers" by Wojciech Staroń. The director has already won the Golden Dove award for his previous documentary film, "Argentinian Lesson." The second film in the feature-length film competition is the Polish-French-Romanian co-production "Magic Mountain" by Anca Damian.
However, in the short film competition, animated documentary film called "A Documentary Film" by Marcin Podolec will be shown, it will also be the festival's opening film. In this category, another documentary film will compete for the awards, namely, "Alarm Clock" by Piotr Małecki.
In the non-competing sections, one can watch "The Dybbuk. A Tale of Wandering Souls" by Krzysztof Kopczyński, the short film "Snails" by Grzegorz Szczepaniak, Polish-Irish-American co-production "Shoulder the Lion" by Patryk and Erinnisse Rebisz. At the festival, three Polish short animated films will also be shown: "Fences” by Natalia Krawczuk, "Don't Lose Your Head" by Karolina Specht and "Signum" by Witold Giersz.
In addition, ten other films will participate in DOK.Market, within the frames of the Polish Docs programme.
The projects qualified for the DOK.Leipzig Co-Production Meeting include "The Wind. A Documentary Thriller" by Michał Bielawski produced by Telemark and "Diagnosis" by Ewa Podgórskia, produced by Entertain Studio. These meeting sessions, lasting two days, are aimed at encouraging producers to build co-operation and to participate in international co-productions as well as to help them find the source of financing. Apart from one-to-one meetings, the schedule of the Co-Production Meeting includes also joint debates and case studies, dedicated to the opportunities and challenges related to the international co-production market.
DOK.Leipzig is one of the leading events in the world of documentary and animated film. Every year, DOK.Leipzig presents a wide spectrum of latest film productions from several dozen countries from all continents. Last year at the festival, one could watch 368 films from 62 countries. The festival is accompanied by various industry events, among others, DOK Market, International DOK Leipzig Co-Production Meeting and DOK Summit, thanks to which it is possible to establish precious contacts in the documentary and animated film industry as well as to gain a lot of knowledge about film production.
