"LIGHT IN AUGUST" AND "LARP" AWARDED IN BRNO
Two Polish films were awarded at this year's edition of the Brno 16 Festival. The film "Light in August" by Matej Bobrik won the Student Jury Award and the Special Mention, and "Larp" by Kordian Kądziela - the Special Mention.
This year's, 56th edition of the Brno 16 Festival was held from 14 to 17 October. Among the festival award-winners, there are two Polish productions. The Student Jury decided to award the short fiction film "Light in August," made by Matej Bobrik. The same film also won the International Jury's Special Mention. The award was received by Grzegorz Jaroszuk who worked as assistant director of "Light in August."
Kuba and Jurek, the protagonists of "Light in August," are friends. Kuba and Jurek are friends. They work together clearing the forest and spend their free time together, too. Both live in the village of Olchówka where life goes by at its own unhurried rhythm – people know each other very well, the atmosphere is bucolic and leisurely. One day Kuba wakes up after a passionate night and finds himself in the middle of a field, accompanied by cows. Then he cannot find his mate. So he decides to look for the girl that they both met that night.
The International Jury also awarded the film "Larp" by Kordian Kądziela with a Special Mention. The film's protagonist, seventeen-year-old Sergiusz, feels completely misunderstood in his family. Some of his aunts confuse him with his cousin, his older brother, Remigiusz does not speak to him and his father wants to turn him into a boxer of worldwide renown. The boy takes refuge in his great passion, the world of science-fiction.
