ANIMATED FILM IN WOMEN'S HANDS

Industry Zone at Krakow Film Festival is a perfect opportunity for industry meetings and sharing experiences. At the presentation "Animated in Poland," producers, representatives of television channels and selectors of international festivals could watch fragments of eight animated films, which are currently at the stage of post-production.

Industry Zone awarded animated film for the third time. On June 2, Zofia Ścisłowska hosted ANIMATED IN POLAND - presentation of Polish animated films in post-production. During the meeting, the representatives of eight short film projects presented their films, explained what inspired them and how the process of film-making looked like.

Anita Kwiatkowska-Naqvi was the first one to present about her film. "Locus" is a black-and-white animated film, made using stop motion technique. The film's protagonist is a woman who travels alone and in the empty compartment she reminisces about events from the past. Bogna Kowalczyk presented a totally different project.  Her "Vanilla Whip" is a story of 4 people connected with the world of BDSM. The director, wanting to understand the subject matter as well as possible, read blogs and met with people who prefer this kind of sexual activity. Thanks to it, she managed to make an animated film verging on a documentary.

Wiola Sowa is another director who deals with erotic themes.  Her "XOXO - Hugs and Kisses" is inspired by the dance theatre.  The film's protagonists, though they derive sensual pleasure from their relationships, are not capable of establishing closer bonds. Marta Pajek showed fragments of "Impossible Figures and Other Stories II", the second part of her animated triptych. Another film inspired by dance is "TeBelgeza" by Tessa Was. The film's title is a play with intitials of the authors and Betelgeuse - the name of one of the brightest stars.

The most numerously represented project was "Practice makes perfect" by Weronika Kuc, Małgorzata Jędrzejec, Dominika Fedko, Ewa Drzewiecka, Aleksandra Rylewicz and Małgorzata Jachna. In the cinema of Małopolski Ogród Sztuki, appeared four out of six students of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and presented their project, in which Roman Polański meets the characters from the films he directed. The last film to be presented was "Oh mother!" by Paulina Ziółkowska, the story of an adolescent son and his overprotective mother. Constant changes in the appearance of the protagonists provoke the question who is really a child and who is an adult.

After the presentation of eight projects, individual meetings were held, during which the animated film-makers could discuss their projects in detail with producers and selectors of international festivals. It was an opportunity to share experiences, gain additional financial support and pitch one's animated film, that is, a chance to show, in the near future, one's film to festival audience from various corners of the world.
