"Killing Auntie" by Mateusz Głowacki won the Best Live-Action Film award of the Zlin Dog competition. Zlin Film Festival was held from May 29 to 4 June.
Zlin Dog is a student film competition, held within Zlin Film Festival which had its fifty-fifth edition this year. The jury of the Zlin Dog competition, consisting of Elena Del Moral (Spain), Tali Barde (Germany) and Jakub Kouřil (the Czech Republic) awarded "Killing Auntie" by Mateusz Głowacki, produced by the Faculty of Radio and Television at the University of Silesia with the Best Live-Action Film award.
Jurek, who is twenty three, lives with his aunt who does her best to provide the boy with everything he may need. Tired by the stability and security of life under constant care, he decides to change his fate. To quiet down his aunt’s incessant jabbering he reaches for a hammer. The film, based on the unfinished novel ‘Killing Auntie’ by Andrzej Bursa, is a story about the need of deliverance, full of unobtrusive absurd and black humour.
