IGOR CHOJNA NOMINATED FOR THE PRIZE AT IDFA
Among all documentaries taking part in the IDFA competition, the international jury selected three films in each of eight competition sections that are going to be nominaned for the main prize. Igor Chojna’s documentary Screening at the Tatry cinema has been nominated in the Student films cathegory.
The list of awarded films was announced on 26th November so the last day of International Documentary Festival in Amsterdam. Igor Chojna’s short documentary film had been listed among the nominees selected for the main prize in Student Film cathegory. Screening at the Tatry cinema – representing Polish National Film School in Łódź – competed with german All my fathers directed by Jan Rainer from Filmakademie Baden- Württemberg and Belgian What’s in a Name Evy Küpper from Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASK) in Gent. The last one has won the prize.Darek Ambroszczyk is the only person working at a small declining cinema in Łódź. He spends long hours in the ticket office of the empty Tatry cinema indulging in grumbling and manifesting his dislike for the world and accidental clients. Is it possible that every day routine may have completely drained his passion? Professional burnout is exposed by Darek’s discouragement and apathy. When the work is over he lives a life of a local freak spending time in his cluttered flat with two unruly dogs.
„Screening at the Tatry cinema” has been shown at Cottbus Film Festival and DOK Leipzig in Germany and at 50th Krakow Film Festival in Poland, where it has been celebrating its’ premiere screening and was awarded the Silver Hobby Horse for the Best Documentary.
Igor Chojna graduated from the faculty of History and Political Science at the University of Toronto and Film Directing at the Polish National Film School in Łódź.
