KUBA CZEKAJ AWARDED IN ALBANIA
The director of the short feature film “Don't be Afraid of the Dark Room”, Kuba Czekaj, was successful at the First Step Film Fest Festival in Albania's capital – Tirana.
On 29th October, the International Student Film Festival First Step Film Fest in Tirana came to an end, and with the closing of the festival the names of the award winners were announced. Among them was Kuba Czekaj. His short feature film, “Don't be afraid of the Dark Room”, was honoured with the Main Prize in the short film category
“Don't be Afraid of the Dark Room” is a story of the boundless love of 11-year-old girl, Łata, to her father. The girl prepares a song for a school academy, organized on the occasion of the forthcoming Father's Day. It makes the girl watch her father more closely than usual. To describe her feelings as best as she can, she begins to slowly unravel his hidden secrets....
“Don't be Afraid of the Dark Room” has won several awards at international film events, among others at SHQIP FILM FEST Festival in Kosovo (Grand Prix), 50th Krakow Film Festival (the Silver Hobby-horse for the best short feature film), Portuguese festival AVANCA 2010 (Grand Prix), as well as at the 34th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia (Grand Prix in the Young Polish Cinema competition).
The film “Don't be Afraid of the Dark Room” was made within the frames of the “30 minutes” programme, coordinated by the Munk Studio working by the Polish Filmmakers Association. The film is available on the latest edition of the Studio Munk DVD - “Polish debuts 2009/2010.”
