SHORT FILMS AT THE FESTIVALS IN AUGUST

This month, Polish short films will be shown at the festivals on as many as five continents, beginning from Ukraine and Austria, through Uruguay and Israel, to New Zealand and Australia.

On the first day of August, starts the Melbourne IFF in Australia, during which the audience will have a chance to watch two Polish animated films: The Little Soul by Barbara Rupik and The Hunt by Mateusz Jarmulski. A real deluge of Polish productions will take place at the DokuFest International Documentary and Short Film Festival in Kosovo, where, in the main competition, the following films will participate: Boys with Butterflies (dir. Marcin Filipowicz), and Acid Rain (dir. Tomek Popakul), whereas in the non-competing sections, Squaring the Circle (dir. Karolina Specht) and A World that Flew Away on the Back of a Cow ( dir. Wojciech A. Hoffman), Skinny (dir. Daniel Stopa) and Story (dir. Jola Bańkowska) will be shown.

 

In the first week of August, Colaholic by Marcin Podolec will be shown in the competition at the ANONIMUL IFF in Romania, in turn, Acid Rain will be presented at the Tel Aviv Animation Festival Animix. At the same time, Polish animated films will feature at as many as two Italian festivals: Tango of Longing (dir. Marta Szymańska) will compete for the awards at the Molise Cinema Film Festival, whereas Squaring the Circle will be shown to the jury at the Faito DOC Festival. Karolina Specht's film will also compete against three other Polish productions at the ALPINALE Short Film Festival in Austria, for which The Other (dir. Marta Magnuska), The Last Tale About Earth (dir. Magdalena Seweryn and Igor Polaniewicz) and Ravik the Steppe Turtle (dir. Michał Chmielewski) are also qualified.

 

You can also watch Polish productions in the competition at the Animation Now!, New Zealand IFF, for which Tango of Longing and Bless You! by Paulina Ziółkowska qualified. III by Marta Pajek continues its festival journey, this time competing for the laurels at An Ordinary Day FF in Sweden. In the side section of this festival, you can watch Pussy, directed by Renata Gąsiorowska. In the same week, Manticore by Mateusz Czuchnowski and You Are Overreacting by Karina Paciorkowska will fight in the competition at the International Film Schools Festival in Uruguay.

 

As many as four Polish films will be evaluated by the jury of the Imaginaria Film Festival in Italy. The selectors of this event decided that The Hunt, Tango of Longing, Bless You! and The Rain (dir. Piotr Milczarek) deserve to compete for the main award. In addition, at the Riurau Film Festival in Spain, The Stop by Bartosz Reetz will compete for the awards, whereas Sunset by Marcin Giżycki will have a chance to win prizes at the BuSho International Short Film Festival in Hungary.
