"AUGUST" AWARDED AT PALM SPRINGS SHORTFEST
"August" by Tomasz Ślesicki was given two awards at the Palm Springs International ShortFest, which ended on June 22. The film won the statuette in the category Best Live Action Short 15 Minutes and Under, and honorary mention for Exceptional Cinematography.
The twenty-first edition of the Palm Springs International ShortFest, held from 16 to 22 June, was undoubtedly very successful for Tomasz Śliwiński. His short fiction film "August," produced by Warsaw Film School, was honoured with the First Place award in the category Best Live Action Short 15 Minutes and Under, and honorary mention for Exceptional Cinematography. The jury included: David Ansen (writer), Gregg Kilday (Film Editor at The Hollywood Reporter),Steve Greene (Assistant Editor of Indiewire's Criticwire Network), Dan Ireland (writer/director/producer), Roberta Munroe (writer/director/producer), Barry Primus (actor), Kim Waltrip (Independent Film Producer).
"August" is a film about the first, timid love and the irrational behaviour that it may sometimes trigger. Two teenagers who live in the countryside take a 6-year-old child for a walk through meadows and fields flooded with August sunshine. Nothing will ever be the same since then because of what happens during the walk.
It is worth adding that the award at the Palm Springs ShortFest qualifies "August" for applying for an Academy Award in the short film category.
