"DAD'S NOT HOME" COMPETES FOR STUDENT OSCAR

A production created by a student from the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School at the University of Silesia in Katowice has a chance to receive a Student Academy Award. Jan Saczek's film has just secured a nomination for this prestigious prize.

The Student Academy Awards is a ceremony organised by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. These awards are designated for film school students from around the world and represent a significant milestone in the careers of young directors. Recipients often go on to receive nominations for Academy Awards, serving as a springboard to careers in the film industry. The competition promotes emerging talent and recognises outstanding achievements across various film categories.

This year, Jan Saczek's production is competing for the trophy. The short fiction film Dad's Not Home follows two brothers who hide the fact that their father is suffering from frontotemporal dementia. After their mother's death, they are left on their own with their ill parent. They must care for him and take care of the house to remain together.
