"LIVE" WINS AWARD AT AMERICAN FESTIVAL

Mara Tamkovich's short film has earned recognition from the jury at the American Salute Your Shorts Film Festival.

The Salute Your Shorts Film Festival is a Los Angeles-based international event that celebrates the art of short filmmaking. Its primary aim is to support newcomers as well as established creators who use brief forms to tell moving stories. The festival presents a carefully curated programme from around the world, rewarding the finest productions across various categories. The event is famous for its welcoming atmosphere and is valued as a platform for discovering new talent in the film industry.

This year, one of the awards went to Mara Tamkovich. Her short film Live claimed the Narrative Best of Fest award. The film takes place during a peaceful demonstration in Minsk commemorating Raman Bandarenka, who was beaten to death. The gathering is brutally suppressed by the police. The world learns about this through a broadcast made by female journalists from an independent Belarusian TV station, who are the only ones transmitting live about the unfolding events. For safety reasons, they report from the windows of a nearby flat. When authorities begin shooting at protesters and the women are targeted by a police drone, they have little time to decide whether to continue their mission despite the risks.
