“PEOPLE & THINGS” GETS OSCAR-QUALIFYING AWARD
Made by Damian Kosowski, People & Things returns home with the Best International award from the 29th L.A. Shorts International Film Festival.
L.A. Shorts International Film Festival is one of the most prestigious and longest-running short film festivals in Los Angeles. Established in 1997, the festival is on the official list of Oscar®- as well as BAFTA-qualifying events, making it a crucial platform for short film creators. Each year, it showcases hundreds of films from around the world.
The award-winning film People & Things by Damian Kosowski is set in the near future in post-war Ukraine. It tells the story of 34-year-old Olena (Oksana Cherkashyna), who arrives with her eight-year-old daughter Kira (Kira Makidon) and her friend Tymur (Stanislav Voitsekhovskyi) to collect DNA test results confirming that her husband Ilya, who went missing during the war, is dead. Confronting the exhumed bodies of victims of Russian aggression is going to force her to choose between the present and a world that has passed.
