POLISH SHORT FILMS AT FESTIVALS IN APRIL

Spring is favourable to Polish short films. This month, short films will appear, among others, at the festival Go Short in the Netherlands and at Mediawave in Hungary.

In the last days of March started the festival Cleveland in the USA, where appeared the documentary film "Invisible" by Zofia Pręgowska. The film will be also shown during Nashville Film Festival, also in the United States. March 31 is also the starting day of the festival "Kino Pavasaris" in Vilnius, in which the following films will participate: "Sexy Laundry" by Izabela Plucińska, "A Documentary Film" by Marcin Podolec and "Alarm Clock" by Piotr Małecki and the American festival AMDOCS, at which the films "Signum" by Witold Giersz and "Super Unit" by Teresa Czepiec will be presented. The documentary film by Czepiec will also feature at the Atlanta Film Festival and during the 28th edition of Filmfest Dresden. In Germany, the following films will be also shown: "Fragments" by Agnieszka Woszczyńska, "Creatures" by Tessa Moult-Milewska, "Hurly-Burly" by Kuba Czekaj and "Object" by Paulina Skibińska, whereas "America" by Aleksandra Terpińska will participate in the international competition in Dresden.

At the beginning of April, in the USA started the Bellingham Music Film Festival, where "Sto[ne]s" by Marcin Giżycki is invited to the programme, and Cheap Cuts in Great Britain, where "Knife in the Wife" by Vita Maria Drygas will feature. At the environmental film festival, inaugurated on April 5, one will watch "Fences" by Natalia Krawczuk. But a day earlier, on April 4, start three festivals at which Polish short films appear: the International Female Film Festival in Sweden, which will show "Shit Eaters" by Agata Wojciechowska, the Athens Film Festival in the USA, showing "7 Sheep" by Wiktoria Szymańska and the Cluj Shorts  in Romania with "Creatures." The animated film by Tessa Moult-Milewska will be also shown at the children's film festival CMS in India, at the animated film festival in Detroit,  together with "Moko" by Marta Szymańska, at the festival VAFI in Croatia, in addition to the film "The Shelter: The Dog" by Jarosław Szyszko, and at Mediawave in Hungary. A strong Polish representation of short film prepares for the Hungarian festival, apart from "Creatures," the following films will compete for the awards in the competition: "Moko," "America," "Summer 2014" by Wojciech Sobczyk, "But she's nice" by Tomasz Pilarski, "Light in August" by Matej Bobrik, "Pinky" by Tomasz Cichoń and "Hippos" by Piotr Dumała.

The animated film by Dumała is also invited to the competition at the festival Skepto in Italy and to the French festival L’Inconnu. There, in addition to "Hippos," the animated film "Kinki" by Izumi Yoshida will be also shown. "Kinki" will also be shown at the festival Next in Romania, together with "Hurly-Burly," and at the experimental film festival Leiden in the Netherlands. There, it is included in the competition, together with "The Only Way" by Piotr Domalewski.

This month, four festival screenings are in store for the film "Snails" by Grzegorz Szczepaniak. The documentary film will be shown in Brazil at the festival It’s All True, at Crossing Europe in Austria, at DocumentaMadrid in Spain and Go Short in the Netherlands. "Object" by Paulina Skibińska will also compete for the awards in Nijmegen.

Four Polish short films will participate in the Swedish festival Varmlands, these are: "Frozen Stories" by Grzegorz Jaroszuk, "Afternoon" by Izabela Plucińska, "Woolen Cogwheels" by Bartosz Kędzierski and "Domestication" by Sylwia Gaweł. Another review of Polish films will be held in Spain during the short film week in Madrid. There, the viewers will see the film "Watermelon" by Tato Kotetishvili, "To Thy Heart" by Ewa Borysewicz, "A Visit" by Matej Bobrik, "Killing auntie" by Mateusz Głowacki and "Hurly-Burly." The last of the aforementioned films will also appear at the Riverside Short Film Festival in the USA.

In the second half of the month, Polish short films will reach several European festivals. In the Czech Republic, at the festival Finale Plzen, "A Documentary Film" by Marcin Podolec will be shown, in Germany, at the women's film festival - "Figure" by Katarzyna Gondek and "Don't Lose Your Head" by Karolina Specht, and in the Netherlands, at the student film festival Flicks, the viewers will see as many as four Polish productions: "Home" by Agnieszka Borowa, "The Moment" by Piotr Domalewski, "Debut - Love" by Sylwia Rosak and "Asshole" by Krzysztof Komander.  In Belgium, at the Brussels Short Film Festival, "What I Want" by Paweł Kocur and "Grandma's Day" by Miłosz Sakowski are invited to the programme. "The Place" by Julia Popławska will compete for the award at the Trento Film Festival in Italy.

In the second half of the month, Polish short films will appear also in South Korea - "7 sheep" will feature at the Buscan festival, and in the United States - "Starting Point" by Michał Szcześniak will appear at the New Port Beach festival.

April is also the month of the largest documentary film festivals. In Switzerland, the festival Visions du Reél is held, where two short films will be shown: "The Great Theater" by Sławomir Batyra and "Patriotic Lesson" by Filip Jacobsen. At the end of the month starts also Hot Docs in Canada. There, "Last Season" by Sławomir Witek and "Przed świtem" by Łukasz Borowski will appear.
