MEET THE POLES! IN MACEDONIA
In the late August the latest Polish documentary productions will be presented at Makedox Creative Documentary Film Festival in Skopje. One week before the audience in Macedonia will see documentary classics in a special "Masters From Krakow" programme.
Makedox has been organised in Skopje for 8 years only but it already became one of the most important documentary festivals in Macedonia. Each year, apart from the competition screenings, the programme includes industry events, workshops and non-competing sections. This year's special guest is Polish documentary cinema presented in the "Meet the Poles!" programme.
Thanks to the programme the festival audience will have a chance to see Polish documentaries from the last two years which achieved international success, as well as documentary winners of the Krakow Film Festival between 1961 and 1999. During Makedox they will also be able to take part in the workshops run by Wojciech Staroń.
Among the latest productuons presented during the festival's "Country in Focus" section are: "Over the Limit" by Marta Prus, "The Sisters" by Michał Hytroś, "Opera About Poland" by Piotr Stasik, "How to Become a Pope?" by Justyna Mytnik, "Call Me Tony" by Klaudiusz Chrostowski, "How to Destroy Time Machines" by Jacek Piotr Bławut, "Daniel" by Anastazja Dąbrowska, "Zhalanash – Empty Shore" by Marcin Sauter, "One, Two, Zero" by Anna Pawluczuk, "Communion" by Anna Zamecka, "Leocadia's Dream" by Krzysztof Nowicki and "Festival" by Anna Gawlita and Tomasz Wolski.
It is worth mentioning that "Over the Limit" was also invited to the Newcomer Competition, "Call Me Tony" to the student competition and "Zhalanash – Empty Shore" to the Main Competition Programme.
A week before the festival a special screening of the "Masters from Krakow" programme will take place in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Skopje. It is a section presenting documentaries made by Polish masters of the genre which won the Golden Dragon or the Golden Hobby-Horse at the Krakow Film Festival: "The Musicians" by Kazimierz Karabasz, "On a Railway Line" by Bohdan Kosiński, "Primary School" by Tomasz Zygadło, "Hair" by Marek Piwowski, "Seven Women of Different Ages" and "The Hospital" by Krzysztof Kieślowski, "The Primer" by Wojciech Wiszniewski, "A Few Stories About Man" by Bogdan Dziworski, "Anything Can Happen" by Marcel Łoziński and "The Sisters" by Paweł Łoziński.
The festival will also host Wojciech Staroń's workshops called "Directing Reality". Wojciech Staroń is a Polish director, cinematographer and photographer, a winner of numerous awards both as a director and cinematographer. His last film "Brothers" received, among others, Golden Dove at DOK Leipzig and Prix SRG SSR at the festival in Locarno.
Apart from Wojciech Staroń the filmmakers behind the presented films will also visit Macedonia. Among them are Anna Gawlita, Tomasz Wolski, Anna Zamecka, Marta Prus and Krzysztof Nowicki. Another guest of the Makedox Festival will be Katarzyna Wilk from the Krakow Film Foundation. KFF is the co-organizer and the partner of the screenings. Meet the Poles is realised with financial support from Polish Film Institute.
Makedox Festival will take place August 16th - 23rd and the "Masters from Krakow" screenings on August 10th and 11th. More information about the festival is available on the Makedox website.
