"LESSON" AND "EIGHTEENTH BIRTHDAY" - THE WINNERS OF WATERSPRITE FESTIVAL

Two Polish films were awarded at Watersprite - the Cambridge International Student Film Festival. "Eighteenth Birthday" by Marta Prus was awarded with the best documentary film award, and "Lesson" by Damian Kocur - with the best cinematography award.

This year's edition of Watersprite - the Cambridge International Student Film Festival was held from 6 to 8 March. Among the festival award-winners, there are two Polish productions. "Eighteenth Birthday" by Marta Prus, produced by Lodz Film School, was chosen the best documentary by the festival jury, and "Lesson" by Damian Kocur, made in the Radio and Television Faculty of the University of Silesia, was awarded for the best cinematography.

The protagonist of "Eighteenth Birthday" is a ward of Youth Fostering Centre in Lodz, who is just turning eighteen. After being released, she wants to have her birthday party.

In the first scene of "Lesson," a boy looks through a shop window, runs into the confectioner's shop to buy a cookie, and then dashes, quick like an arrow, to school. There is a clink of a cash-register, closed half a century ago. This sweet beginning does not portend a more sour adventure: is this only the boy's adventure, or someone else's?

It is worth mentioning that apart from "Eighteenth Birthday" and "Lesson," also "Miruna" by Piotr Sułkowski and "Errata" by Arek Biedrzycki were screened at Watersprite festival.
