POLES TWICE AWARDED IN DRESDEN

At the closing gala of the 24th Filmfest International Short Film Festival in Dresden Poles celebrated a double triumph. Two graduation films directed by the students of Polish National Film School in Łódź, “I won’t be here tomorrow” and “Frozen stories”, were listed among the laureates.

Every year the core of the festival’s agenda is formed by ten competition programmes. This year nearly 40 films selected from over 2,500 entries that were sent to Dresden from all over the world got accepted to the final competitive selection. Luckily two of them , “I won’t be here tomorrow” by Julia Kolberger and “Frozen stories” by Grzegorz Jaroszuk, were produced in Poland. In the end it turned out that Poles had more reasons to feel proud about as on the final festival’s night both films were awarded – “Frozen stories” received the Golden Horseman award presented by Youth Jury while Julia Kolberger’s film got the Special Mention ex aequo with „Body Memory” by Ulo Pikkov and “Swarming” by Joni Männistö.

The award presented in Drezno is the eighth handed over to “Frozen stories”, that started its international, festival career from its premiere in Locarno. Jaroszuk’s film is a black comedy that portraits the efforts of two protagonists who try to change their lives for better.

„I won’t be here tomorrow”
by Julia Kolberger, is a  moving portrait of a young girl who tries to escape from the influence of her domineering mother. This short fiction awarded so far at Serbian Kustendorf Music and Film Festival, is a graduation film that Kolberger made at Polish National Film School in Łódź.
