POLISH FILMS TRIUMPH AT DOK LEIPZIG
On November 5, the award ceremony of the 59th edition of the festival DOK Leipzig was held. This year, as many as five Polish films were awarded in Leipzig.
DOK Leipzig is one of the leading events in the world of documentary and animated film. Every year, in Leipzig, the latest film productions from several dozens of countries from all continents are presented. This year, almost 300 films were shown at DOK Leipzig, including over 40 Polish films, and seven of them participated in the competition sections. And as many as five Polish films return from Leipzig with awards.
The Golden Dove in the International Competition Short Documentary Film went to the film "Close Ties" by Zofia Kowalewska. The jury appreciated the film for showing the intimate story of two people in a simple, humorous way, as well as for the courage which gave the documentary film its unique quality. For "Close Ties," the screening in Leipzig was its international première.
The second Golden Dove went to Filip Jacobson for "Patriotic Lesson". The Polish-German co-production was awarded in the German Competition Short Documentary and Animated Film. In its justification, the jury emphasises that the film touches upon a very important subject matter - the indoctrination of the society from an early age.
The MDR award, dedicated to the outstanding Eastern European film went to the Polish-Russian co-production "Convictions," directed by Tatyana Chistova.
The documentary film "Communion" by Anna Zamecka can boast yet another success. The film, which has already won awards in Locarno and at Warsaw Film Festival, leaves Leipzig with the Young Eyes Film Award.
The last of the Polish winners at the festival DOK Leipzig is the animated film by Renata Gąsiorowska. Although "Pussy" was not invited to the competition section, it is the film to which the Audience Award given by the radio mephisto 97.6 went.
