"SING ME TO SLEEP" RECEIVES THE SPECIAL MENTION IN DRAMA
On 24th September, after six days of screenings, the 17th edition of International Short Film Festival in Drama reached the end. The international jury presented the film “Sing me to sleep” by Magnus Arnesen with the Special Mention.
Born in Oslo, Magnus Arnesen studied film directing at Polish National Film School in Lodz and “Sing me to sleep” he directed is his graduation film. The short fiction was already screened in the competitive sections of more that fifteen film festivals receiving such awards as Grand Prix at Portuguese Estoril Film Festival, Grand Jury Prize at Ivy Film Festival in USA and the award for the best screenplay at Tehran International Short Film Festival in Iran to name just a few.
“Sing me to sleep” is an adaptation of a short story by a renowned Norwegian writer Frode Grytten. A picturesque village surrounded by fjords near Bergen, Norway. Robert, a 40-year-old postal worker, gives up work to spend time by the bed of his mother diagnosed with terminal cancer. She has only one wish before dying: she wants to know that her only son is not alone in the world. The man lies to please her ensuring that he is already dating a girl.
Apart from Arnesen’s film, two other Polish short fiction films were screened in Drama – “The Whisper” by Leszek Korusiewicz that also made its way to the competition and “Hanoi-Warsaw” by Katarzyna Klimkiewicz screened in the festival’s non-competitive programme.
