“FRESHMAN” WINS AWARD IN BELGIUM

The short documentary by Michał Edelman and Tomasz Pawlik returns from the Viewpoint Documentary Film Festival in Ghent with the award for Best Documentary Short.

The Ghent Viewpoint Documentary Film Festival, held in Belgium, is an event dedicated to documentary cinema. Its programme focuses on socially and politically engaged works, often addressing themes such as human rights, social justice, and contemporary conflicts. The festival features both emerging talents and established documentarians from around the world. The Ghent event is known for its intimate atmosphere and post-screening discussions with filmmakers.

Freshman is a two-year observation of 15-year-old Jędrek. Cut off from his family and friends, the boy is placed in a juvenile detention centre. Isolated and fragile at first, he eventually forms a meaningful friendship with Wojtek.
