“CRAB” GETS AUDIENCE'S FAVOUR IN BRAZILc

The audience gathered at the Sao Paulo International Short Film Festival was delighted by Piotr Chmielewski's animated film. They picked it as one of the event's ten best films.

The São Paulo International Short Film Festival is an event aimed at promoting local and international short films. What makes this festival stand apart is its non-competitive nature. Films are screened in various sections and it is the viewers, not the judges, who get the chance to share their admiration for a particular short film. Every year, the audience selects 10 favourite films from the entire program. This year, a Polish animated film is among them.

Recognised by the Brazilian audience, Piotr Chmielewski's Crab is an attempt to adopt the perspective of the titular crustacean and discover the worlds it inhabits through its eyes and ears. Animals are mute witnesses of our history; they have accompanied us during humanity's greatest failures and triumphs. Their lives run parallel to ours – we eat them, use them as tools, and sometimes we simply don't notice them. But what would happen if we tried to adopt their perspective? What do the events that we all know from history lessons look like when seen through the eyes of animals?
