KUBA CZEKAJ REACHING THE PODIUM AGAIN

At recently finished Kyoto International Student Film and Video Festival 2010 short film directed by Kuba Czekaj and produced by Munk Studio was awarded the Grand Prix of the festival.

Kyoto International Student Film and Video Festival is one of the biggest film events in Japan devoted to short films produced by film schools. What is also interesting, the festiwal is organized by students aiming not only at promotion but also at creating a board for exchanging ideas and experiences.

This year’s edition of Kyoto International Student Film and Video Festival was held between 27th November and 4th December. Polish young director – Kuba Czekaj – became one of the festival’s laureates receiving Grand Prix for his fiction film „Don’t be afraid of the dark room”.

This is another award for this film produced by Munk Studio within the frame of „30 minutes” programme. „Don’t be afraid of the dark room” has been awarded this year at: First Step Film Festival in Tirana (Best Short Film), International Meetings of Cinema, TV & Video Avanca Film Festival in Portugal (Best Short Film), International Short Film Festival Shqip Film Fest in Kosovo (Grand Prix) and Canada International Film Festival (Special Jury Mention). Kuba Czekaj is also a laureate of the prestigious award handed by Third programme of Polish Radio, Silver Hobby Horse at 50th Krakow Film Festival and Grand Prix of the Polish Young Cinema competition at 34th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia.

“Don’t be afraid of the dark room” is a story of an endless love of an eleven-year-old girl, Łata, to her father. Łata is preparing a song for a school play, organised to celebrate the forthcoming Father's Day. It makes the girl look more closely at her father than usual. In an attempt to describe her feelings as best as she can, she slowly begins to uncover his hidden secrets...
