TWO POLISH ANIMATIONS AT CANNES

On April 11 the Short Films Selections of the 71st Festival de Cannes were announced. Marta Pajek's animation "III" will take part in the Short Films Competition, and "The Other" by Marta Magnuska in the Cinéfondation Selection.

"III" by Marta Pajek was selected to the main short films competition at Cannes. The film was produced by the Animoon. The selection committee received 3943 submissions and selected to the competition eight films: seven live-action and one animation.

"III" is the third part of the triptych "Impossible Figures and Other Stories...". Middle aged woman and man meet in a waiting room. Slowly, they get closer. He helps her take off her heavy, black fur coat that covers her naked body. That's how the game between them begins: they keep seducing and exposing themselves. Their hands reach inside their bodies in which organs resemble floral forms.

"The Other" by Marta Magnuska was invited to the Cinéfondation Selection. The selection committee has seen 2426 films submitted by film schools all over the world and chosen 17 of them - 14 live-action and 3 animations.

In this animation people waiting for the arrival of the mysterious newcomer, keep on guessing who he might be. The blurry vision of the stranger takes shape in their imagination and his presence feels almost real. The initial excitement of the crowd gives way to anxiety.

It is worth mentioning that among 25 films in the official selection there are only four animations, and two of them are from Poland.

The 71st Festival de Cannes will take place May 8th - 19th. More information about the festival is available here.
