POLISH DOCUMENTARY ETUDE AWARDED IN BRAZIL
Matej Bobrik, director of the documentary etude “Where the sun doesn’t rush”, made in the Leon Schiller's National Higher School of Film, Television and Theatre in Łódź, was awarded at the Brazilian Student Film Festival.
“For deliberately interfering in what could be a merely contemplative work, the film constructs, with elements such as framing, sound and editing, an affective and humorous portrait of a community”. This is how the jury of the Brazilian Student Film Festival justified its decision to award the documentary by Matej Bobrik for narrative construction of the film in the international competition. Brazilian Student Film Festival (Festival Brasileiro de Cinema Universitário, FBCU) takes place in two cities: Rio de Janeiro (28th July – 8th August) and São Paulo (9th – 15th August).
“Where the sun doesn’t rush” is a picture of a tiny Slovak village, whose inhabitants moon about, observing the quiet, monotonous reality – without amazement, with full acceptance. Their time is measured by the announcements from local radio station and subsequent news of someone’s death, which constitutes a constant and natural element of the surrounding environment.
The documentary impression by Matej Bobrik was appreciated and awarded at several film festivals – in Poland as well as abroad – among others, at Krakow Film Festival (Maciej Szumowski award), Minsk Open Student Film & Video Festival Kinogran (the best documentary film award), Węgiel Student Film Festival (the best director award), The New York Polish Film Festival (“Beyond Borders” Krzysztof Kieślowski award for the best documentary film).
