15th International Documentary Film Festival "Flahertiana" is held in the Russian city of Perm from 18 to 24 September. The name of the festival refers to the surname of one of the world precursors of documentalism, Robert Flaherty - the director of the famous film "Nanook of the North" (1922). Because of this, the awards given at the festival are called "Nanook Awards," and in previous years they were often won by Poles.

In 2006, the Silver Nanook for short documentary film went to "The Seeds" by Wojciech Kasperski. 2010 turned out to be an exceptionally good year for Polish documentary film: Paweł Łoziński returned from the festival with the Silver Nanook for "Chemo", while special mentions went to Marcin Sauter for "North from Calabria" and Michał Marczak for "At the Edge of Russia". A year later, two Polish films were awarded, the Silver Nanook for short film went to Paweł Stasik for "The Last Day of Summer", and the FIPRESCI award - to "Out of Reach" by Jakub Stożek. In 2014, "Abu Haraz" by Maciej Drygas was triumphant in Perm - the film not only got the festival Grand Prix, that is, the Golden Nanook, but also the FIPRESCI award.

This year, yet another chance for "Nanooks" for Polish documentary film opens. In the international competition, 15 films from around the world, including two films from Poland, will compete for the awards. These two films are "The Queen of Silence" by Agnieszka Zwiefka and "Werka" by Paweł Łoziński.
