MAY SHORT FILM FESTIVALS
This month Polish short films were selected to precisely seventeen festivals around the world. There are fifty screening in the store for them.
The first import ant stop on this month’s festivals’ rute is 59th editio of German Oberhausen Short Film Festival where 5 Polish film will screen – „Rogalik” by Paweł Ziemilski, „Luke and Lotta” by Renata Gąsiorowska, „Ziegenort” by Tomasz Popakul, „Dry standpipe” by Wojciech Bąkowski and a video project “Tango notturno” by Agnieszka Chojnacka. Polish films will compete for t he main award with more than fifty other films send from all over the world. The festival that kicked off yesterday will end on May 7th.This month “Toto” the brand new animation of Zbigniew Czapla proves its good shape. The film will be screened in the competitive section of the biggest American animation festival – Northwest Animation Festival. 12-minutes long animation by Czapla will also screened at Chilean Chilemonos with puppet animation “Danny Boy” by Marek Skrobecki and Czech AniFilm with “What happens when children don’t want to eat soup” by Paweł Prewencki. In the end of May the „Toto” will celebrate its Polish premiere at 53rd Krakow Film Festival.
Aleksandra Terpińska and her “All souls’ day” continues being on a winning streak. This month her short fiction will be screened in the competition of Slovak ArtFilm Fest. It worth to mention that last year the Grand Prix of the festival was scored by a Pole – Paweł Ziemilski and his “Swedish job”.
Four Polish films were selected for the short film competition of Brooklin Film Festival - an animated “Railway watchman” by Piotr Szczepanowicz and fiction “Watermelon” by Tato Kotetishvili, documentary “Rogalik” by Paweł Ziemilski and “Exit point” by Jagoda Szelc – all three will screen for the first time in US.
A decent bunch of Polish films made it to the competition of Italian River Film Festival held for the 7th time this year in picturesque old harbor of Padua. The programme will feature nine films including “Miruna” by Piotr Sułkowski, “Noise” by Przemysław Adamski, „Monstrosity” by Michał Makowski and „The mystery of Malakka Mountain” by Jakub Wroński.
At the turn of May and June the 53rd edition of Krakow Film Festival will be held. Among the films selected for the competitive sections one will easily track 25 Polish short films. Five among them made it to the international competition and will compete for the Golden Dragon award – “Toto” by Zbigniew Czapla, “To Thy heart” by Ewa Borysewicz, “Fugue for Cello, Trumpet and Landscape” by Jerzy Kucia, documentary “Mother 24/7” by Marcin Janos Krawczyk, “When I am a bird” by Monika Pawluczuk and short fiction “Killing auntie” by Mateusz Głowacki. Festival will be held between 26th May and 2nd July.
