„ROGALIK” RECEIVES SPECIAL MENTION AT ZAGREBDOX FESTIVAL

Last Sunday evening the closing gala of ZagrebDox festival took place in Zagreb. A documentary “Rogalik” by Paweł Ziemilski received a Special Mention in The Little Stamp category.

The ninth edition of ZagrebDox Documentary Film Festival ended on Sunday, March 3rd. Two Polish films have taken part in the International Competition of the festival: „Rogalik” by Paweł Ziemilski and „Bad boy – high security cell” by Janusz Mrozowski.

“Rogalik”, which was produced by Polish National Film School in Łódź, received a Special Mention in The Little Stamp category that presents the films made by directors below 35 years of age. Ziemilski’s film, devoid of commentary, in which the camera’s eye observes people devoting themselves to everyday activities, has been already recognized at film festivals – it was nominated to the main prize of IDFA Film Festival.

A Polish documentary filmmaker, Marta Minorowicz, formed part of the jury of The Little Stamp competition together with Dick Fontaine and Tońci Gaćina. The jury decided to award the Romanian film - „Turn Off the Lights” by Ivana Mladenović. Meanwhile, an American „Kudzu Vine” by Josh Gibson received The Big Stamp award in the international competition.

It’s worth noting that Polish documentary films had already succeeded in Zagreb before. In 2010  „Chasm” by Wojciech Kasperski and a year later „Charcoal burners” by Piotr Zlotorowicz were awarded The Little Stamp. Last year as many as three Polish films were awarded at ZagrebDox.  “Returns” by Krzysztof Kadłubowki received the main award of the International Competition while  “Decrescendo” by Marta Minorowicz and “Paparazzi” by Piotr Bernaś were honored with Special Mentions.
