FILMS BY THE STUDENTS OF THE ŁÓDŹ FILM SCHOOL WIN IN ROMANIA
Romanian students' film festival CINEMAIUBIT took place at the beginning of December for the sixteenth time. This year, two Polish films: "The Barbican" by Bartłomiej Żmuda and "Watermelon" by Tato Kotetishivili stood on the podium.
From 3 to 6 December the fans of short students' films met in Bucharest. For four days, the viewers could watch documentaries, animations, fiction and experimental films produced in Romania, Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Ukraine, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, China and India. Within the frames of the competition apart from the award-winning "The Barbican" and "Watermelon" the following films were also presented: "The Conversation" by Piotr Sułkowski, "Written in ink" by Martin Rath, "Aposiopesis” by Jagoda Szelc - all made by the students of the Polish National Film School in Łódź.Łódź Film School was also invited to present its special programme. In the set of ten films, making up the retrospective, there were, among others, "Two Men and a Wardrobe" by Roman Polański, "While You're Asleep" by Andrzej Wajda and "The Office" by Krzysztof Kieślowski.
On 6 December, the last day of the festival, the best films were awarded. The fiction “Barbican" by Bartłomiej Żmuda received Grand Prix. In addition, the film also got the Best Actor award - the jury appreciated Marek Kossakowski’s performance, who played Emil - the main protagonist of the film. "The Barbican," BA graduation film by Bartek Żmuda, is a story about a young man, for whom the return from Germany to Poland, after a long absence at home, will turn out to be a real personality test. The second awarded Polish film, "Watermelon" by Tato Kotetishvili - a hilarious story about the competition between two watermelon sellers - received the jury's Special Award.
