THE PEAK OF THE NOVEMBER SEASON
Even though the weather outside does not make us positively disposed, the intensive festival bustle continues. November festivals will surely bring Polish short films new chances of getting awards .
This month, the festival route of the short films will clearly cross the European boundaries. The Turkish Izmir will show as many as three animations produced in the Łodź Se-Ma-For - "The Good, the Beauty and the Truth" by Balbina Bruszewska, "Good news, bad news" by Kacper Shikeli and the regular festival participant, "Sleepincord" by Marta Pajek. One would also see "Drawn from memory" by Marcin Bortkiewicz in the same competition. Also in Turkey, in the competition at the 24th edition of Istanbul Short Film Festival the following films met: "Noise" by Przemek Adamski, "Kichot" by Jagoda Szelc, "Reception" by Maciej Bochniak and "The Conversation" by Piotr Sułkowski. Polish films wandered also to the far-off Chile - four Polish films were chosen to the programme of the ninth edition Fenaco-Lambayeque festival (14 to 17 November): "Glasgow" by Piotr Subbotko, "Written in ink" by Martin Rath, "Favourite thing" by Piotr Iskra and "Paths of fate" by Damian Nenow. The Chinese International Student and Video Festival of Beijing Academy invited to the competition "Without snow" representing the Polish National Film School in Łódź and "Glasgow" produced by the Wajda School. At the same time, two films by the students of the Film School in Łódź - "Normal people" by Piotr Złotorowicz and "Written in ink" by Martin Rath will meet at the American Cucalorus Film Festival. Coming back to European festivals, as many as four films will be shown in the competition of the Estonian Sleepwalkers - the international jury in Tallinn will assess "Detail" by Piotr Sułkowski, "Kichot" by Jagoda Szelc, "Frozen stories" by Grzegorz Jaroszuk and "Without snow" by Magnus von Horn. The short fiction "A porter from Mewa hotel" will mark its début in the competition at the Czech festival Brno 16.In the category of animated film festivals, November will definitely belong to three films. "Afternoon" by Izabela Plucińska will be shown at Hungarian Anilogue, Estonian Animated Dreams, French Essone, Spanish festival in Soria and Italian festivals INVIDEO and Ozu FF. "Noise" by Przemek Adamski found its way to the programmes of Spanish Filmets, German interfilm Berlin and ExGround, French Brest and, just like the animation by Plucińska, to the selection of Italian INVIDEO and Ozu FF. "What happens when children don't eat soup" by Paweł Prewencki will compete for awards at Interfilm Berlin and will be shown in the non-competing section of Hungarian Anilogue. It is worth mentioning that also this month three Polish animations are invited to the competition at the Brazil Stop Motion International Film Festival. The following films will compete for the prizes: "Danny Boy" by Marek Skrobecki, "Underlife" by Jarosław Konopka, both produced by Łódź Se-Ma-For and "Wings 3D" by Krzysztof Szafraniec, the student of the Polish National Film School in Łódź.
This month, "Frozen stories" by Grzegorz Jaroszuk is back in action, having received as many as eleven festival invitations. During this month, the film will be shown in the competition sections of the following festivals: Hong Kong IFF, Cinambule, Indie Memphis, Filmets Badalona, Lyon-Villeurbanne IFF, Interfilm Berlin, Sleepwalkers, Brno 16, EuShorts Film Festival, VGIK International Student Festival and Leeds IFF. Last month, the short fiction by Jaroszuk won yet another award, so we can still expect a lot from this film, even though it has been shown at the festivals for over a year now.
This year, the organizers of the German UNLIMITED Short Film Festival in Cologne decided to dedicate the special programme New Polish Shorts to Polish films. There are six films in the set - animations "The Good, the Beauty and the Truth" by Balbina Bruszewska, aforementioned "Afternoon" by Izabela Plucińska and "Noise" by Przemek Adamski, "Paperbox" by Zbigniew Czapla and documentaries "Vakha and Magomed" by Marta Prus and "Written in ink" by Martin Rath. The sixth edition of the festival will be held from 15 to 18 November.
