LODZ FILM SCHOOL AWARDED BY THE ANIMAFEST ZAGREB FESTIVAL
The prestigious Animafest Zagreb 2020 Best Animation School Award will go to the Łódź Film School this year.
Animafest Zagreb World Animation Film Festival was first held in 1972, it is the second oldest film festival after Annecy, which is entirely dedicated to animation and one of the most important animated film festivals in the world. This year's festival has been moved to September.
The Film School in Łódź is one of the oldest film colleges in the world, last year celebrated its 70th birthday. The school educates students in the fields of film, television, photography and acting. Many of the success achieved at international festivals come from the works by animation students. Last year, the prize in Cannes was won by “The Little Soul” by Barbara Rupik, and the most internationally recognized Polish animation is Renata Gąsiorowska's “Pussy”, which was also made in the school.
Every year, Polish titles appear in the program of the Croatian festival, many of them are productions created at the Film School in Łódź. Similarly this year, three films of Polish students were invited to the competition.
The invitation to the competition section of the 'Marbles' by Natalia Spychała, ‘Portrait Of A Woman' by Natalia Durszewicz and ‘The Little Soul’ by Barbara Rupik was decided by a selection committee, which included Daniel Šuljić, Katrina Novaković and Milivoj Popović. They are also responsible for the decision to award the Film School in Łódź.
The animations created at the Lodz film school made a great impression on the selectors, who appreciated their courage in crossing the boundaries of the medium, freedom in experimenting as well as high quality and professionalism.
The award will translate into the festival program, there will be a retrospective of the best-animated films made in the Łódź Film School.
