POLISH SHORT FILMS AT THE FESTIVALS IN NOVEMBER

The next month will be particularly abundant as far as screenings of Polish short films at international festivals are concerned. This time, November has set the European trends, and the greatest number of productions will be shown in Germany, Spain, Portugal and Italy.

A very large number of festivals, which will give their awards in November, already started at the end of the last month. And so at the 13th edition of the Big Cartoon Festival in Russia, the following films will compete for the awards: "You Are Overreacting" by Karolina Paciorkowska, "Acid Rain" by Tomek Popakul, "Bless You!" by Paulina Ziółkowska and "The Rain" by Piotr Milczarek. At the same time, two other festivals are held, in the competitions of which you can find Polish animated films. At the 38th Festival du cinéma international en Abitibi-Témiscamingue in Canada, the jury will watch "Story" by Jola Bańkowska, in turn, at the 62nd International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film, the films "Portrait of Suzanne" by Izabela Plucińska and "Guilt" by Marcjanna Urbańska will compete for the laurels.

The largest number of Polish productions at the turn of the month you can find during the eighth edition of the Primanima World Festival of First Animations in Hungary. In the competition, there are: "The Other" by Marta Magnuska, "My Strange Elder Brother" by Julia Orlik, "Oh, God!" by Betina Bożek, "Horizon" by Paulina Ziółkowska, "Squaring the Circle" by Karolina Specht and "You Are Overreacting" by Karina Paciorkowska. In the side section, you can watch "Thicket" by Adrianna Matwiejczuk and "Norma" by Agata Mianowska.

At the beginning of November, Polish short films will also be shown outside Europe. During the film festival in Denver, in the main competition the jury will evaluate "Acid Rain" by Popakul, in Korea, at the Asiana International Short Film Festival, Bańkowska and her "Story" will compete for the Grand Prix award, in turn, at the Japanese New Chitose Airport International Animation Festival, "An eye for an eye" by Julia Płoch, "My Strange Elder Brother" by Orlik and "Acid Rain" will compete for the awards.

Other festivals at whose screens you can watch Polish short films, are the REX Animation Film Festival in Sweden, the Flying Film Festival in Switzerland and the short film festival in Berlin. During the first of the aforementioned festivals, the jury will evaluate "Guilt" by Urbańska, "Story" by Bańkowska, "Bless You!" by Ziółkowska and "Portrait of Suzanne" by Plucińska. In the competition at the Swiss festival, there is "The Notebook" by Aleksandra Rylewicz, in turn, "You Are Overreacting" by Paciorkowska will compete for the awards in Germany.

Also in Berlin, a festival with the greatest number of Polish short films in the competition will be held: the 35th edition of the Interfilm, during which the jury will evaluate "Tango of Longing" by Marta Szymańska, "Colaholic" by Marcin Podolec, "A World that Flew Away on the Back of a Cow" by Wojciech A. Hoffman, "The Hunt" by Mateusz Jarmulski, "Squaring the Circle" by Specht, "My Strange Elder Brother" by Orlik and "Portrait of Suzanne" by Plucińska. At the same time, the 23rd Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur in Switzerland is held, in the competition of which you can watch "Story" by Bańkowska and "Acid Rain" by Popakul, and "The Land of Whim" by Betina Bożek will be shown in the side section.

Polish feature films have also been noticed by international festivals. In the competitions at the 18th Miami Short FF and the 28th Whitaker St. Louis International FF there is "Atlas" by Maciej Kawalski, "Boys With Butterflies" by Marcin Filipowicz will compete for the awards at the Copenhagen Short Film Festival, in turn, at the British Aesthetica Film Festival the jury will evaluate "Red" by Karina Węgiełek, "New Bronx" by Filip Ignatowicz and "Play" by Piotr Sułkowski. The last of the aforementioned films, together with "It's Summer" by Filip Bojarski, "Game of Chicken" by Karina Hajdamowicz and "Loss" by Natalia Nylec, is also included in the best short feature film competition. In addition to them, the films "A degvil and a rascat" by Weronika Szyma, "Mud" by Alicja Błaszczyńska and "The Rain" by Milczarek will compete for the awards in the animated film section.

In November, Spain turned out to be an important direction for Polish short films, where they appear in the programme of as many as six festivals. At the 61st International Festival of Documentary and Short Film in Bilbao, the films "Story" by Bańkowska, "The Hunt" by Jarmulski and"Acid Rain" by Popakul are qualified. At the same time, the 49th edition of the festival ALONE in Madrid is held, where, in the competition there are "Cradle Me" by David Tejera, whereas in the side sections, you can watch "Journey to the Magic Waterfall" by Bogna Kowalczyk and "An eye for an eye" by Płoch. At the European Film Festival in Seville, the screenings of "Squaring the Circle" by Specht will be held, in turn,"Guilt" by Urbańska will compete for the Grand Prix award. In the competition at the Molins Horror Film Festival, there will be "Play" by Sułkowski, whereas during the 21st edition of the Soria International FF, the following films will fight for the laurels: "Happiness" by Maciej Buchwald and "Weightlifter," directed by Dmytro Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk, with "Tango of Longing" and "Colaholic" in the side sections. In the competition at the Cinemistica Film Festival, there is "The Stop" by Bartosz Reetz.

One of the most important festivals for Polish animated film in November will be the Portuguese CINANIMA, in the competition at which there are "Ovule" by Natalia Durszewicz, "The Hunt" by Jarmulski, "My Strange Elder Brother" by Orlik, "Squaring the Circle" by Specht, "You Are Overreacting" by Paciorkowska, "The Little Soul" by Rupik and "Bless You!" by Ziółkowska. Some of these films can also be found at the festival in Manchester, dedicated to the animated film. In its competition, there are "Tango of Longing" by Szymańska and "You Are Overreacting," and non-competing screenings of "Thicket" by Matwiejczuk and "Story" by Bańkowska. Another important direction for the animated film will be the Kaboom Animation Festival in the Netherlands, where the following films will compete for the awards: "Story," "Bless You!" and "Acid Rain." There will also be the screenings of "Black" by Tomek Popakul, "Pussy" by Renata Gąsiorowska and "Tango of Longing." Popakul also has a chance to win awards at the Kurzfilmfestival in Cologne for his "Acid Rain," at the international film festival in Ljubljana, in the main competition, there is "III" by Marta Pajek, in turn "The Other" by Marta Magnuska has a chance to get a special mention at the Norwegian ReAnima.

The third week of November may turn out to be very fruitful for "Play" by Sułkowski, which at that time is included in the competitions at the Italian Festival de Cinema de Castel Volturno, the Morrocan Rabat International Author Film Festival, the Hungarian Blue Danube Film Festival and the German Braunschweig International Film Festival, with the screening of "Loved Ones" by Zofia Kowalewska in the non-competing section.

During the 17th edition of the SCANORAMA festival in Lithuania, the following films will compete for the awards: "Tremors" by Dawid Bodzak and "Weightlifter" by Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk, in turn, in the main competition at the American AFI FEST, there is "Story" by Bańkowska. At the Exground Filmfest in Germany, the jury will evaluate "Portrait of Suzanne" by Plucińska, "III" by Marta Pajek qualified for the international film festival in Brussels, whereas at the French Entrevues Belfort "The Hunt" by Jarmulski will be assessed. The more unusual destinations for Polish short films in November, where they will compete for the awards, include the Qatar Ajyal ("Story" by Bańkowska) and the Child Rights festival in Lebanon ("A Sinner Girl" by Karolina Porcari).

In November, the Etiuda&Anima in Krakow will once again be an important test for Polish animated films. In its competition, there are "Vitae Azilia" by Joanna Wapniewska, "JM" by Stanisław Buczkowski, "Sunset" by Marcin Giżycki, "Last Supper" by Piotr Dumała, "Amelia & Saturnin" by Daniel Zagórski, "Story" by Bańkowska and "Portrait of Suzanne" by Plucińska. Another big festival at the end of November, at which Polish animated film-makers will feature, is the PÖFF Shorts in Estonia. In its competition, there are "Leather" by Karolina Borgiasz, "An eye for an eye" by Płoch, "Acid Rain" by Popakul and"Portrait of Suzanne" by Plucińska. "Metro" by Natalia Krawczuk, "Tango of Longing" by Szymańska and "Ovule" by Durszewicz will have their screenings in the side sections.

In the last days of November and at the beginning of December, the following films will fight for the laurels: "The Stop" by Reetz (at the Argentinian MiraLincoln Short FF), "Colaholic" by Podolec (at the Canadian Giant Incandescent Resonating Animation Festival) as well as "You Are Overreacting" by Paciorkowska (at the Magma International Film Festival in Italy). The November festival season will be closed by the French Fête de l’anim, in whose competition there are "Bless You!" by Ziółkowska, "The Little Soul" by Rupik and "You Are Overreacting" by Paciorkowska.
