"SISTERS" AWARDED IN PORTUGAL

The short documentary film by Michał Hytroś achieved yet another success. The film received a special mention at the Portuguese festival Cinalfama.

The Cinalfama Lisbon International Film Festival was founded in 2009, but it is an international festival only for three years. Over the last two years, more than 3 500 films were submitted to the festival. At this edition of the festival, a Polish production was appreciated. "Sisters" by Michał Hytroś won the honourable mention.

The documentary film "Sisters" shows the audience the world of the convent with all its shades, totally devoid of stereotypes, often touching and amusing at the same time. This is a film about silence told in a particularly loud way.

Behind a huge, 800-year-old wall, in the oldest enclosed nunnery in Poland - the Benedictine nunnery in Staniątki near Krakow -  the lives of 12 nuns are going on, the average age of whom is 70.  Despite their old age and the world outside the wall, changing at a mad pace, every day they try to subordinate their lives to the rule "ORA et LABORA," invented over 10 centuries ago. Our protagonists, the sisters Anuncjata and Benedykta (40 years in the nunnery), with their characteristic charm, introduce us to the world behind the wall, telling us about their lives and the decisions which they made.
