"TOTO" AWARDED AT THE FESTIVAL IN BULGARIA

On Sunday evening, the fifth edition of the animated film festival Golden Kuker ended in Bulgaria. "Toto" by Zbigniew Czapla was announced the winner of one out of nine competitive sections.

In this year's competition, three Polish films participated, namely, "Ex animo" by Wojciech Wojtkowski and aforementioned "Toto" by Zbigniew Czapla (the competition of 10- to 45-minute long films) and "An Incredibly Elastic Man" by Karolina Specht (student film competition).  This year, the festival jury assessed the films in nine competition sections. On Sunday, at the closing gala, the list of the winners was announced. One of them was "Toto" by Zbigniew Czapla. The animated film was granted the best film award in the competition of 10- to 45-minute long films.

It is the fifth foreign award for the latest film by Czapla. "Toto" is a story of a sensitive boy, brought up by a single,  overworked mother, somewhere in the depths,  where life revolves around everyday, common customs. The young protagonist is insidiously seduced by a suspicious "master" and  cynical collector of keys. As  a result of mysterious and  incomprehensible events, the world of his carefree childhood is irrevocably shattered. The boy loses his way home, and  the anxious mother undertakes a desperate attempt to find her son.  A universal story about  naivety and  irrevocably lost childhood dreams. A kaleidoscope of events, full of tension and  horror.  If we do not know the word to name a phenomenon, we do not know what has happened.

It is also worth adding that the Golden Kuker Grand Prix went to a Polish-Romanian "Crulic - the path to beyond" by Anca Damian.

The festival Golden Kuker is organised by the Bulgarian Association of The Independent Artists and Cartoon Animators. The festival was created to honour the legendary Bulgarian animator Proyko Proykov.
