POLISH SHORT FILMS AT THE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVALS IN DECEMBER

During the last month of 2019, Polish short films will be present at the festivals on four continents. Short films from Poland will be present on the screens, among others, in Colombia, Canada, China and Lithuania.

The festival with the largest number of Polish films in September is the Mexican ANIMASIVO, in whose competition there are as many as thirteen animated films. The jury will evaluate: "Acid Rain" by Tomek Popakul, "Story" by Jola Bańkowska, "III" by Marta Pajek, "Thicket" by Adrianna Matwiejczuk, "An eye for an eye" by Julia Płoch, "Squaring the Circle" by Karolina Specht, "The Other" by Marta Magnuska, "The Little Soul" by Barbara Rupik, "You Are Overreacting" by Karina Paciorkowska, "Bless You!" by Paulina Ziółkowska, "Tango of Longing" by Marta Szymańska, "Norma" by Agata Mianowska and "The Notebook" by Aleksandra Rylewicz.

At the same time, Polish animated films will also be shown at two festivals in the eastern part of Europe. In the competition of the seventeenth edition of the Anilogue International Animation in Hungary, there are the following films: "Portrait of Suzanne" by Izabela Plucińska and "The Hunt" by Mateusz Jarmulski. In the side sections of the festival, "The Little Soul" by Rupik, "Story" by Bańkowska, "Tango of Longing" by Szymańska, as well as "Beautiful" by Weronika Kuc will be shown. At the festival "Tindirindis" in Lithuania, the jury will evaluate "Leather" by Karolina Borgiasz, "Eatself" by Edyta Adamczak, "You Are Overreacting" by Paciorkowska,"Tango of Longing" by Szymańska, "Squaring the Circle" by Specht, "The Hunt" by Jarmulski and "III"by Pajek.

Another festival, which features Polish films, is the Poitiers Film Festival, where the viewers will have the opportunity to watch "Daughter" by Mary Tamkovich, "The Little Soul" by Rupik and "Tango of Longing" by Szymańska. The film by Tamkovich will also have a chance to win the award at the Leuven International Short Film Festival, in turn, "Acid Rain" will compete for the laurels at the London International Animation Festival, whereas "Tango of Longing" by Szymańska will be evaluated by the jury of the Russian festival Kinoproba. "Colaholic" by Marcin Podolec is included in the competition at the Brazillian festival Mumia, and "Metro" by Natalia Krawczuk and "Story" by Bańkowska will be screened at the China International New Media Short Film Festival.

One of the festivals, at which a larger number of Polish short films will feature in December, is the international animated film festival Animateka in Slovenia. In its competition, there are: "Journey to the Magic Waterfall" by Bogna Kowalczyk, "Ovule" by Natalia Durszewicz, "The Little Soul" by Barbara Rupik, "Portrait of Suzanne" by Izabela Plucińska, "Acid Rain" by Tomek Popakul, "Story" by Jola Bańkowska and "Metro" by Natalia Krawczuk. In turn, in the non-competing section, the viewers of the festival will watch "Guilt" by Marcjanna Urbańska, "Leather" by Borgiasz, "Sunset" by Marcin Giżycki, as well as "The Hunt" by Mateusz Jarmulski.

By the end of the month, three more films will participate in the competitions at the French festivals: "Badylok" by Karolina Kłapkowska and "Happiness" by Maciej Buchwald will be shown at the Tous Courts of Aix-en-Provence, in turn, the jury will evaluate "Story" by Bańkowska at the Les Arcs Film Festival. Polish animated films will have a chance to win awards also in the French-speaking part of Canada. In the competition at the festival Sommets du cinéma d'animation, "My Strange Elder Brother" by Julia Orlik, "Portrait of Suzanne" by Plucińska, "The Little Soul" by Rupik and "Story" by Bańkowska will be shown. "Metro" by Krawczuk will be shown at a special screening.

"The Hunt" will compete for the awards at two festivals in Spanish-speaking countries. The film by Mateusz Jarmulski is included in the competition at the Aguilar Film Festival in Spain and at the Colombian BOGOSHORTS, where it will compete with "Red Light Train" by Alicja Kot, "Daughter" by Tamkovich, "Ovule" by Durszewicz as well as "Story." The film by Bańkowska will also be shown in the competition at the Cromarty Film Festival in Great Britain, and "Play" by Piotr Sułkowski will have a chance to win the award at the Culver City Film Festival in the United States.

The film by Sułkowski is included on the competition lists of several festivals in the Far East. "Story" will be the only representative of Polish cinema at the Kalpanirjhar International Short Fiction Festival in India and at the Busan International Art Film Festival in South Korea. In turn, at the Microwave International New Media Arts Festival in Hong Kong, "Room" by Michał Socha will be shown. Polish short films will also be present at the festivals in the Middle East. At the Karama Human Rights, "Story" by Bańkowska will compete for the award. A large number of non-competing screenings will take place at two Turkish festivals. During the AFSAD International Film Festival, the audience will watch "7 Sheep" by Wiktoria Szymańska, "Colaholic" and "A Documentary Film" by Marcin Podolec as well as "Story." The animated film by Bańkowska will also be shown at the Amity Short Film Festival, together with "Loved Ones" by Zofia Kowalewska.
