"A LONG TIME AGO IN SILESIA" AWARDED IN TURKEY
The feature film etude "A Long Time Ago in Silesia," directed by Tomasz Proktowicz, with cinematography by Joanna Sobieśniewska, was awarded on Saturday (March 19) the best short feature film statuette at the eighth International ROFIFE Rotary Short Film Festival in Turkey.
From 16 to 19 March in Izmir in Turkey, there was held the eighth edition of the International ROFIFE Rotary Short Film Festival. The first award in the feature film category went to the film, produced by Wroclaw Film School Mastershot: "A Long Time Ago in Silesia" directed by Tomasz Protokowicz.
The festival, organised by the Turkish Rotary Club, every year awards films dealing with important issues: human rights, peace, economic progress and social development. The film, telling the story of the separated twin brothers and of their second, dramatic meeting many years later, was selected from among 580 submitted films. The director received the award in person at the ceremonious gala in Izmir on March 19, 2016.
The film "A Long Time Ago in Silesia" tells the story of twin brothers, Rysiek and Stefan, who live in an orphanage run by nuns. It is located in a small Silesian town, where Poles and Germans live next to each other. They had bad luck as they grow up in one of the most abominable periods in the history of this place - in the period of the third Reich. Soon their roads would part in order to cross several years later, in extremely unpleasant circumstances.
