"MY HOUSE WITHOUT ME" AWARDED IN AUSTRALIA
"My House Without Me" by Magdalena Szymków was appreciated by the jury of WOW Film Festival, which ended on 14 March. The film was chosen the Best International Documentary and was given the WOW Award in this category.
The awards ceremony of the World of Women's Cinema WOW Film Festival took place in Sydney on 14 March. Among the award-winning films, there is the documentary "My House Without Me" by Magdalena Szymków, produced by Wajda Studio. The film won the WOW Award in the Best International Documentary category. The award is one year of free membership in the Women in Film and Television New South Wales - an organisation that works to improve the status and participation of women in the film industry.The protagonist of "My House Without Me" is Janina, born in Volhynia, who wass 10 years old when she was deported from her home to Kazakhstan. After a war, as a repatriate, she wass transported to the "recovered territories" abandoned by the deported Germans. She settled down in Szczecin, in a house which previously belonged to the Germans. Here in turn Annemarie was born. She had to abandon her homeland after the war... Two women, one house. The documentary film shows the paradoxes of history, in which one place can simultaneously be a synonym of regained peace and lost youth.
