"ALL SOULS' DAY" WINS TWO AWARDS IN CAMBRIDGE

Last weekend, "All Souls' Day" – a graduation film by Aleksandra Terpińska won another two awards at the student film festival Watersprite, which took place from 7 to 9 March in Cambridge, England.

The Watersprite Student Film Festival was founded in 2010 by the group of students from Cambridge University. The event, organised every year, offers, apart from film screenings, also a rich programme of events dedicated to filmmakers and producers: meetings, workshops, lectures etc. This year, 325 films from 43 countries were submitted to the festival.

Every year at the festival student films are awarded in eleven categories. The list of this year's nominees was announced on the festival's website in late January, but the names of the winners were given last Saturday, on 8 March. Awards are offered in 11 different categories, comprising both wider, genre-based awards as well as accolades for specific technical skills. Among the nominated 44 films, there was "All Souls' Day" by Aleksandra Terpińska. The film was nominated for Best Directing award, the Best Cinematography award and the Best Fiction award.

Last Saturday at the closing gala of the festival, the names of the award winners were announced. The film by Aleksandra Terpińska won two awards in the Directing category and the Cinematography category (for Bartosz Bieniek). These are another two awards for the film which has already won 8 awards abroad. The producer of "All Souls' Day" is the Radio and Television Faculty at the University of Silesia in Katowice.

To be born on the All Souls' Day. It is a paradox which one has to face once a year, all life long.  This is the joy of birthday and infinite sadness for those who are gone. It is the day of the strength of life and the power of death. There are lights on the grave and candles on the cake. In addition, it is a turning point, because the main protagonist has a plan connected with resolving a certain mystery. During this birthday, Lena will try to solve some of her problems and ... she will grow up.
