POLISH FILMMAKER AWARDED IN CLERMONT FERRAND

Kacper Lisowski, the author of the fiction short film “Father’s Day” is one of the winners of 36th edition of Short Film Festival in Clermont Ferrand, which ended yesterday evening. The film was awarded by the Student Jury.

This year, two Polish films got to the competitive section of the festival. The award-winning short fiction “Father’s Day” was one of 73 films screened as a part of the international competition, while the animated “Ziegenort” by Tomasz Popakul took part in the selection of the experimental section Labo. During yesterday’s closing gala of the festival, it was the film by Lisowski that gained the recognition of the jury. The film was awarded by the Student Jury. This is the first award for “Father’s Day” - the screening at the French festival was its international premiere.

“Father’s Day” is a short film debut by Kacper Lisowski, who graduated from Director of Photography and TV Production Departmentof at the Łódź Film School. The film was created within the frames of 30 minutes programme operated by Munk Studio, working within the structures of Polish Filmmakers Association. Monternia.pl is the co-producer of the film. Krakow Film Foundation supports the international promotion of “Father’s Day”.

Marcel is almost forty, but he has not settled down yet. Just like a free electron, he lives from party to party, avoiding making commitments and taking advantage of the pleasures life can give. Until the moment, when a non-committal adventure, in which he got entangled, forces him to take care of 10-year-old Józek. Marcel does everything he can to get rid of the wayward boy, but it is all in vain.  All his plans go adrift and in addition to that, the child disappears in the middle of the night.

This year’s success of “Father’s Day” is not the first success of Polish film at the French festival in recent years. In 2011, Marta Minorowicz got the festival Grand Prix for her documentary “A Piece of Summer”, while two years later, the Youth Jury gave their Special Mention to “Frozen Stories” by Grzegorz Jaroszuk.  The festival in Clermont Ferrand is the largest and the most prestigious festival worldwide dedicated only to short films. Simultaneously to the festival, there is also the film market, where film professionals meet every year. This year’s edition of the festival took place from 31st January to 8th February.
