“THE BIG LEAP” BY KRISTOFFER RUS AWARDED BY LOS ANGELES MOVIE AWARDS
Polish-Swedish The Big Leap by Kristoffer Rus was awarded the Honorable Mention and Best Editing Award by Los Angeles Movie Awards (LAMA). The award ceremony will take place on January 25th at the Actors Company Theaters in LA. The day before the film will have its nordic premiere at 37.Göteborg International Film Festival.
"The Big Leap" is a Polish-Swedish short about the financial crisis and gather an up-and-coming director, international well-established actors (Gustaf Skarsgård), live action and animation. It is already for the second time, after 2013 Krakow Film Festival, that the jury awards this title for editing appreciating the use of the CGI for the purpose of telling the story .Does God exists? - everything started with this universal question that the Swedish director, Kristoffer Rus, wanted to ask in the era of a global financial crisis. With the help of pitch black humor, The Big Leap stresses the moral dilemmas that erupt when the protagonists realize that everything they have fought for is gone. They meet atop a skyscraper. They have the same intention - to commit suicide due to a major financial crisis. The conflict quickly escalates when they discover that they all represent a different conviction about the afterlife. The only way to find out who’s right is to take The Big Leap.
Production company, Prasa & Film (All That I Love), is the producer of the film. The co-producers are: East of West Cinema AB, Sweden (Nina’s Journey), Telewizja Polska S.A., ATM FX and ATM Studio, WFDiF (Rose). The film is co-financed by Polish and Swedish Film Institute.
Kristoffer Rus is half Swedish, half Polish. He graduated from Kulturama film school in Stockholm and Wajda School in Warsaw. He has directed festival winning short films like The Apple Tree (Audience Award, Gothenbourg FF; Winner, Palm Springs FF; Critiques Week Cannes 2003). Currently he is working on the adaptation of the critically acclaimed novel Masakra Profana by Jarosław Stawirej.
The world premiere of the film took place at the Seattle International Film Festival in 2013. At 2013 Krakow Film Festival The Big Leap received the award for the Best Editing, at Raindance Film Festival got nomination for the Best International Short. The screening at Göteborg International Film Festival will be the nordic premiere for the film.
