„THE MAN WHO MADE ANGELS FLY” AND „ROGALIK” IN COMPETITION IN KARLOVY VARY
Polish documentaries have been included in the competitive programme of the prestigious Karlovy Vary International Film Festival for the consecutive year. This time Poland will have its representatives both in short and feature length competitions.
"The man who made angels fly” by Wiktoria Szymańska, already screened at Hot Docs Film Festival in Canada, will be compete for awards in the feature lenth documentaries section. The film, which is a Polish-French coproduction tells the story of Michael Meschke – one of the most famous puppet theatre artists in the world, born in Gdańsk (Poland) in 1931.In the short films sections Poland will be represented by „Rogalik” – a film made by a student of Polish National Film School in Łódź, Paweł Ziemilski. The film has been already shown at many different international film festivals. It is worth mentioning that the film has been noticed by the jury of last year edition of IDFA Film Festival – “Rogalik” was one of the three films nominated to the Main Prize. Apart from “Rogalik”, another Polish short documentary will be screened in Karlovy Vary. “Written in ink” by Martin Rath has been included in the The Fresh Selection section that presents 5 most promising Young filmmakers.
Polish documentaries in the production phase will also be present in Karlovy Vary. „Returns of Agnieszka H.” by Krystyna Krauze and Jacek Petrycki and "Agfa 1939" by Michał Wnuk will be presented in the Docu Talents from the East programme.
It’s not yet the end of Polish accents at the festival – a film „Papusza” by Joanna Kos-Krauze i Krzysztofa Krauze will be screened in the Main Competition, "Floating skyscrapers" by Tomasza Wasilewski and „The girl from the wardrobe” by Bodo Kox – in the East of the West competition, “Traffic department” by Wojtek Samrzowski – i n the Variety's Ten Euro Directors to Watch section, “You are God” by Leszek Dawid – in the Another View section and “Kamchatka” by Jerzy Kowynia – in the Forum of Independents.
It is worth mentioning that this year there will be two Polish presidents of the jury. Films from the Main Competition will be watched by the jury presided by Agnieszki Holland, and films from the Documentary Competition – by the jury presided by Krzysztof Gierat, the director of Krakow Film Festival. Moreover, one of the East of the West section jury members will be Piotr Mularuk.
In last years Polish documentaries have been screened in Karlovy Vary several times and Marcin Koszałka has been awarded there twice – in 2010 he received Special Mention for the film „Till it hurts” and in 2012 – the Grand Prix for the Best Film for „The Declaration on immortality”.
