FOCUS ON POLAND AT CINEAST 2025 IN LUXEMBOURG

The upcoming 18th edition of the CinEast Film Festival in Luxembourg (10–26 October 2025) will spotlight Poland as its central theme. The “Focus on Poland” programme will showcase both classic and contemporary Polish productions, alongside meetings with acclaimed guests, retrospectives, concerts, and culinary events.

Founded in 2008, CinEast has become a key cultural event in Luxembourg, dedicated to cinema from Central and Eastern Europe. This year’s Polish Focus will highlight not only feature-length films but also Polish documentaries and short films. Audiences will have the chance to see, among others, Maciej Drygas’s “Trains” (winner of the IDFA Grand Prix), Alisa Kovalenko’s intimate wartime portrait “My Dear Théo”, Arjun Talwar’s “Letters from Wolf Street”, capturing Poland through the eyes of a foreigner, and Eliza Kubarska’s “Wanda Rutkiewicz. The Last Expedition”, which tells the story of the legendary Polish mountaineer. Art lovers will also be able to discover “Abakamania”, a documentary about renowned Polish artist Magdalena Abakanowicz, directed by Róża Fabjanowska and Sławek Malcharek.

A special highlight of the Focus will be The Best of Polish Shorts, curated in collaboration with the Krakow Film Foundation. This programme presents nine short films, spanning from world cinema classics to the early works of today’s award-winning Polish filmmakers. The line-up includes:

Two Men with a Wardrobe (Roman Polański, 1958)

Hospital (Krzysztof Kieślowski, 1977)

Tango (Zbigniew Rybczyński, 1981)

The Echo (Magnus von Horn, 2009)

Rogalik (Paweł Ziemilski, 2012)

Pussy (Renata Gąsiorowska, 2016)

III (Marta Pajek, 2018)

The Tough (Marcin Polar, 2019)

Beyond is the Day (Damian Kocur, 2020)

The cinematic section of the Focus is organised with the support of the Polish Film Institute, while additional events are backed by the Polish Institute in Brussels and the Embassy of Poland in Luxembourg.

In addition, another Polish title that will appear during the festival will be the short film “Lift Lady” directed by Marcin Modzelewski, which will compete for the audience award in the Short Documentary Films category.
