POLISH SHORT FILMS AT FESTIVALS IN JANUARY
The festival year 2021 is off to a slow start. Despite the fact that January tends to have a small number of festivals, some Polish short films will represent their country at festivals in the United States, Australia, and several European countries.
The festival run of Polish shorts will begin extremely late – only at the end of the second week of January. The first festival in 2021 is Film Maudit 2.0 held in the United States, with its competition section including Natalia Krawczuk's “Metro” and Izabela Plucińska's “Portrait of Suzanne”. The Reykjavík Feminist Film Festival will be taking place at the same time. Karina Paciorkowska's “You Are Overreacting” and two films by Marta Pajek: “Impossible Figures and Other Stories II” as well as “III” will be screened in the capital of Iceland.
The most important event in January will be the French festival Premiers Plans held in Angers, with four Polish productions competing for awards: animations “Such a Beautiful Town” by Marta Koch and Yelyzaveta Pysmak's “My Fat Arse and I”, and feature films: “My Heart” by Damian Kocur, as well as “Quiet Now” by Katarzyna Wiśniowska. Also in France, Katarzyna Warzecha's animated documentary “We have one heart” will be running for awards at the FIPA DOC International Documentary Festival.
This month, Warzecha's film qualified for competitions at two festivals. The other one is the Australian Flickerfest. The same happened to Damian Kocur's “Beyond is the Day”, which has a chance of winning at the Italian Trieste Film Festival and the French festival Clermont - Ferrand, one of the brightest spots on the short film festival map.
