SHORT FILM FESTIVALS IN JANUARY

In January, film festivals only begin to gain momentum. This month, festival audience can watch seven Polish short films, which qualified for the competition sections of five festivals.

In the festival calendar, January is not a busy month. However, it is the first month of year when one of the most important film festivals in the world is organised, namely, the Sundance Film Festival in the USA. This year, two Polish short documentaries, both produced by the Polish Filmmakers Association Munk Studio, were invited to its competition: "Object" by Paulina Skibińska and "Starting Point" by Michał Szcześniak. Both films qualified for the competition section of the Documentary Shorts Program.

Three Polish films will compete for awards in the competition at the Premiers Plans Festival in Angers, France, the programme of which consists of European film débuts.  The films, which the Angers audience will see, include "Such A Landscape" by Jagoda Szelc, "Of A Forest" by Katarzyna Melnyk produced by Polish National Film School Lodz and "Milky Brother" by Vahram Mkhitaryan, the co-production by Wajda Studio and Munk Studio.

"Our Curse" by Tomasz Śliwiński, produced by Warsaw Film School, can boast two screenings in January.  This short documentary will participate in the competition sections at the Chilean festival Talca International Short Film Festival and American Irvine International Short Film Festival.

"The Heat" by Bartosz Kruhlik qualified for the competition of the student film festival Kingston Arts London Festival in Great Britain.
