BARBARA SYNAK’S “TERRITORY” RECEIVES A SPECIAL MENTION AT SHORTS MÉXICO
“Territory”, directed by Barbara Synak, received a Honorable Mention in the International Animation Competition at the 20th edition of Shorts México, the largest short film festival in Latin America.
For years, Shorts México has served as an important platform for presenting short films from around the world, promoting bold, original and distinctive creative voices. The festival has consistently supported the development of the short film format, providing space for filmmakers who explore new ways of storytelling and experiment with the possibilities of the medium.
“Territory” follows a protagonist who becomes trapped, in a sense, within her own body. Moving through the labyrinth of her inner world, she is forced to confront obsessions and desires connected with food, which remain persistently present and painfully tempting.
The film explores a toxic relationship with the body and portrays illness from an internal perspective. It focuses on the confusion, loneliness and sense of losing control experienced by people struggling with eating disorders, emotions that often remain invisible to others while profoundly shaping everyday life.
