WARSAW FILM SCHOOL - NEW SEASON AT INTERNATIONAL FESTIVALS

Last summer films made by young filmmakers from the Warsaw Film School, with the support of the Polish Film Institute, were included in the programmes of numerous notable international film festivals. More interesting and important events are still ahead of them.

"Daughter" awarded in Greece and at Two Riversides

In the Wide Lens section of the 5th edition of the Greek Taratsa International Film Festival a film "Daughter" by Mara Tamkovich won two awards: for best film and best cinematography.

Earlier this year the filmmaker from the Warsaw Film School was awarded for her film at Two Riversides Festival. The jury of the International Short Film Competition consisting of Gabriela Muskała (actress, playwright), Urszula Antoniak (film director, screenwriter) and Piotr Domalewski (actor, director, screenwriter) gave "Daughter" Special Mention "for a film which despite its short form perfectly depicts a long road to justice; the road much harder as it leads through a system where the law does not exist". It is worth mentioning that the films was competing with 34 film productions from around the world.

Mara Tamkovich received as well the "She’s Mercedes" statuette. This initiative is dedicated to women of all professions, which inspire each other and share their experiences conserning professional careers, private life, developing their passions and creating a balanced life.

Mara Tamkovich's film will be soon presented at festivals in Austria (Linz International Short Film Festival), Bosnia and Herzegovina (Jahorina Film Festival) and Armenia (Sose International Film Festival). It will be also presented during the 43th Polish Film Festival in the Short Film Competition.

"The Wormwood Star" among the best films of 2018

A documentary film "The Wormwood Star" directed by Adelina Borets will be shown at the 34th Warsaw Film Festival in the Best Shorts from Poland 2018 section among 19 other titles, which for the selection committee of the 34th WFF proved to be the most interesting Polish short productions this year.

"The Wormwood Star" was also selected to the competition of the 29th New Orleans Film Festival, which qualifies to the Academy Awards.

"Nuclear Shadows" in RPA, Iran and Taiwan

In the programme of the festival mentioned above we can also find a short fiction film "Nuclear Shadows" directed by Marek Leszczewski. It is worth mentioning that the film, which will be soon presented in the official selection of the Cape Town International Film Market and Festival (Cape Town, RSA), was also selected to Art for Peace Festival in Iran and Kaohsiung Film Festival in Taiwan. A short fiction film "The Lake" directed by Catherine Kasima Kanda is also awaiting a successful festival journey. The film will be presented at festivals in Greece (Symi International FF), Ukraine (Cinemaway), the USA (Planet 9 FF, Buskopolis Festival of Cinematic Oddities) and others.

"Place Cards" in the USA

A short fiction film "Place Cards" directed by Andrzej Święch will take part in the competition of the first children's film festival which is an Academy Awards qualifying festival - the 35th Chicago Children’s Film Festival. It is one of the world's oldest events dedicated to the young audience. The film "Place Cards", which so far has been awarded, among others, in South Korea, will be also presented in the competition of the 10th Charlotte Film Festival in North Carolina which will begin on September 26th.
